[Poetry] Bapuwa wetù

Poem that Geneviève Bapuwa wrote as a funeral oration to her late husband.

Bapuwa Mwamba Kadiayi,
Bapuwa wa Tshimanga ne Mutombo
Mulela wa Kamwanya Tshiombo wa Lenga,
Kamwanya mukwa Nsumpi Tshibala wa ku Muuya.

Akaa!! Bapuwa wetu,
Tshikulumpe cya mubidi nzaka nyima dyobo,
Tshilobu cyanyi telejaku kanyi kaboobo,
Ndi nkubikila, mwena mutumba wanyi,
Lwaku tuya kwenu hambelu mu Kazaadi

Wewa udi mwena Mpuka,
Mpuka citonta muledi wa bakalenga
Kulela citokatooka e kulela ni nseki mwabi,
Mwena Tshilunda wa ku bintunta,
Tshilunda wa Muuya wa Lukusa.

Bapuwa wanyi wa ku bintunta,
Udi wa kudi dibwe kadyendi,
Kwenu nkudi dibwe didi dyambule dibwe naadi,
Kadi balumiana, dyendenda dibwe bantu kufwa.

Katuya kwenu wa nsamba ibidi, mwena Mulanga,
Bapuwa mulela wa Tshibangu, wa Bandubwila, wa Mbuyi, wa Mbombo,
Tshilobo wa ku ba mowa maayi,
Wa beeleela mwena Mulanga.

Wewa ki mpanga wa manangananga,
Muluma wa kunangamana ha kwenda,
Mukaba wa ngomba ngole,
Tshilamba wa kuvwala dya lwendu.

Kadiayi cya malunda mangi malongu makesa,
Mwamba mulengele kumona, mwena mpala wa matengu,
Mwamba baya’a Kembia Mukwa Tshibuyi,
Diina diwunsaamunasamunwina,
Wewa ki bayanyi wa mu kabandu.

Baya’a Kembia Mukwanga Mukwa Tshimuna,
Mukwanga wa Ndeka wa mu Kabyula
Wa ku mu Mukaba Kwa Mpumbua Kazadi Wa kufwila mutooka ne muntuwa kaaji
Wa ku biitshikila biapaanga babooyi
Mushaala musoomba ne binsonji kwyisu

Juka hanshi Mwamba Kadiayi,
Wenda mwendenda Ntambwe,
Unkwata ku diboko undeja mwa kwenda mazengu,
Lwendu lwendenda ba-nkole neebe.

Bapuwa wetu, Mwanba wetu,
Muvwala nzambala leelu uyaya ku lwendu kayi?
Mwana’a Tshimanga kacya wanshiya ne kabidi kabomba,
Ntunga’a mulongu wanyi,
Udimunshiya ne kanyinganyinga ku moyo.

Kadi baana beebe washiyi mwaba kayi,
Baana mbalengela ne tatwabo,
Mukaji mmulengela ne bayenda,
Ku udi muya kakwena mukanda,
Wamfundilako bwa meeme kuleeja baana?

Bapuwa, diiba dyabwedi,
Mikenji udi mupeesha nganyi,
Idi kayiyi myanji kukika?
Ndi mutangila ku njila bintonda,
Kadi wewe ne upingana diiba kayi?

Nkole wanyi wa Mukwa Tshibuyi,
Meema weba cyena mumanya lufu lweba,
Kadi walaala abidi kubweji disaatu,
Tangila kudi lufu lweba lufuma,
Tshikudiila wamonanangana naatshi.

Taatu cyena ne tshi kukupa
Tangila kunu nkupa meena
Mwadya mvita mwena bantu
Wewa wa beena ngenyi ne beena meeji
Nyoka kafu diisu
Nansha yeeya munkatshi mwa meeba

Getting over the inherited racist tendencies of my generation.

mixed race IrishOne of the lessons I have learned over the last few years as an expat, and through my friendships with people from all over the world is that racism is much more prevalent than we think.

I think that any white person of my generation is racist by nature or rather by inheritance. It is up to ourselves to do something about it.

There are many forms of racism, but I am talking of the most obvious one, the racism by white people against black Africans.

The first time I saw a black person, was when I was around 5 or 6. I was playing in the park with my sisters, sitting on the green grass in the sun and making daisy chains . A black woman watched us and I remember she was crying and came to ask if she could take a photograph. We said yes, of course…
